Veer Takes on Ishqiya

22nd January will see the release of Veer, which is arguably Salman's biggest film till date. And on 29th of January, a week later will release Ishqiya, directed by debutante director, Abhishek Chaubey.

Will Ishqiya be a stiff competition to Veer? Well, let's see the analytics.  The positive aspects of Veer are that, it has Salman Khan in it. It's directed by Anil Sharma who has already tasted success. Veer will see the rise of debutante actress Zarine Khan, who is said to be a Katrina Kaif look alike. She has already made her presence felt in the film industry.  And since, Salman started blogging for this movie as he calls this his dream project, there will be a lot of people who are willing to share his dream and are expecting loads from the movie. Veer's music is already spreading like wildfire. Sajid-Wajid's music along with Gulzar saab's lyrics has spelled magic. It is said that a fortune has been spent behind the movie and it has taken its time to come.

On the other hand, there is Ishqiya which was earlier stated to release on the 22nd of January along with Veer but now has changed its release date to 29th of January because of the clash.  Ishqiya is written by Vishal Bhardwaj who is known for making path breaking films in the past. His Kaminey did a good business in 2009, wherein his work was awe-inspiring. Ishqiya has veteran actor like Naseeruddin Shah and the ever talented Arshad Warsi and Vidya Balan. The film's music is also doing a good business as the lyrics are again penned down by Gulzar saab.

Veer narrates the story of the legendary and courageous nomad known as Pindaris. It's an untold story of Veer (Salman Khan), a freedom fighter, who fought for social justice and sovereignty much before India became independent. There are many unrecorded stories of bravery which never sees the light of the day. One such legend of a Pindari soldier called VEER. Veer dedicated his life for the fight for his motherland. He was a man with a mission to fulfill his father's revenge against the King (Jackie Shroff) of the Madhavgarh kingdom who had duped the Pindaris with the help of the British. The twist in the tale comes when Veer unknowingly falls in love with the princess (Zarine Khan) of Madhavgarh ' the next heir. Now, the stakes are high. At stake is his love for princess Yashodhara, daughter of his sworn enemy and his thirst to avenge his father's dishonor. What stance will Veer take?

Ishqiya is a tale of romance between individuals caught in a web of crime, suspense, passion and deceit. It is a typical Vishal Bhardwaj movie. Both Veer and Ishqiya are poles apart from each other. They have nothing in common whatsoever, except the hype surrounding them. Both have their own target audience and reach.

It will be interesting to see which of these taste success more. At this point of time, nothing can be said but we can keep our fingers cross as both have the potential to be blockbuster movies.
